Inside Indonesia Go Beyond Ordinary, the Bold New Vision Redefining the Nation’s Tourism

Indonesia’s tourism industry is entering a new era. It’s no longer just about selling breathtaking views or promoting popular destinations—it’s about building a movement of deeper value transformation. Through the “Indonesia Go Beyond Ordinary” campaign, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) aims to inspire all stakeholders to level up. It turns tourism into a space for learning, cultural appreciation, and environmental responsibility.

Data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) shows that in August 2025, the country welcomed 1,505,220 foreign visitors, up 1.61 percent from July 2025 and soaring 12.33 percent from August 2024. Despite the steady growth in arrivals, Kemenparekraf emphasizes that success in tourism should no longer be measured by visitor numbers but by the quality of experiences offered and the positive impact on local communities and the environment.

According to Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy for Marketing at Kemenparekraf, the spirit of Go Beyond Ordinary represents a transformation in the sector. “With the spirit of Go Beyond Ordinary, Indonesia reaffirms its commitment as a destination not only to visit but to experience—a place where nature, culture, and people blend to create meaningful journeys,” she said.

Transforming Tourism Values Through “Indonesia Go Beyond Ordinary”

The “Indonesia Go Beyond Ordinary” initiative marks a major shift in perspective—from promoting destinations to developing a sustainable tourism ecosystem. Tourism is now not only about beauty but also about values, meaning, and real contributions to society.

Made explained that global travel trends show tourists today seek experiences, not just places. They want something authentic, clean, and socially responsible. “Good tourism is the kind that protects the environment, preserves culture, and improves community welfare. These three must move together,” she said during the Forwaparekraf Tourism Week forum.

That’s why Kemenparekraf promotes the concept of “Upgraded Tourism” as a national initiative. The goal is to create destinations that are not only visually stunning but also ethical, eco-friendly, and economically empowering for local residents. Sustainability sits at the core of this strategy, tying together three essential pillars: nature, culture, and social well-being.

“Indonesia Go Beyond Ordinary” and the Role of Technology in the Tourism 5.0 Era

To strengthen this transformation, Kemenparekraf is integrating technology into national tourism strategies. Through the Tourism 5.0 concept, digital tools and artificial intelligence (AI) help travelers find environmentally friendly and sustainable destinations.

“Tourists can now search for destinations that promote conservation. When they understand the value behind it, even if it costs a bit more, they’ll still choose it,” Ni Made explained. She added that the future of tourism lies in balancing experience, sustainability, and social responsibility.

This isn’t just about technological innovation—it’s about shaping more value-conscious traveler behavior. When tourists choose eco-friendly hotels, conservation activities, or sustainable local products, they’re contributing to responsible tourism.

Globally, clean and ethical destinations now hold higher social value. Cleanliness has become more than a service indicator—it’s a mark of professionalism and progress. That’s why sustainability is emerging as the new foundation of Indonesia’s global tourism image.
