Business actors in Indonesia must know this important information. The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has established a new Indonesian Halal label and applies nationally.
This stipulation is contained in the Decree of the Head of BPJPH Number 40 of 2022 concerning the Stipulation of Halal Labels as an implementation of the mandate of Article 37 of Law Number 33 of 2014.
According to the Head of BPJPH Muhammad Aqil Irham, the Decree of the Head of BPJPH is effective as of 1 March 2022. Since then, the Indonesian Halal Label must be used as a sign of the halalness of the product in accordance with applicable regulations.
However, business actors who have products that have been certified halal prior to the operation of BPJPH and still have packaging stock with a halal label and MUI halal stipulation number, are allowed to use up the packaging stock first.
Conditions for Using Halal Label
The following are the conditions for using the Halal label:
- Products that have received a halal certificate from BPJPH as of March 1, 2022, are required for business actors to include the Indonesian Halal Label on the product packaging along with the halal certificate number.
- Products that receive a halal certificate from BPJPH before 1 March 2022, have the following obligations:
– If you haven’t made product packaging, you can directly use the Indonesian Halal Label
– If you have made product packaging, use up the packaging stock, and then immediately use the Indonesian Halal Label.
This policy is a form of convenience from the government for business actors in the transition period of implementing halal certification from previously voluntary to mandatory.
The Indonesia Government certainly understands the conditions on the ground. Many business actors have produced product packaging with the MUI halal label. Therefore, for business actors who will produce product packaging for new stock, please use it according to the provisions.
